El presente texto interpreta la película El sol del membrillo de Víctor Erice mediante el estudio de aspectos del filme que resultan especialmente iluminadores de la personalidad cinematográfica de su autor: en qué reside la "modernidad" de sus propuestas, qué sentido tiene en ellas la idea de ficción argumental, qué medios convoca la elaboración de una perspectiva temporal para el relato o cómo revela el poder simbólico de la realidad que habita sus imágenes sin necesidad de recurrir a discursos espurios.
